Golodrya, who recently has served as an anchor for CNN’s international service as well as a fill-in for both Christiane Amanpour and Fareed Zakaria at CNN, is in negotiations with both Politico , where she is in line cover global affairs and CBS News , where she could serve as a contributor, according to three people with knowledge of the discussions. These people caution that talks remain fluid and may not come to fruition.

In a different era, such an arrangement was seen as unorthodox. Now, in 2026, with more journalists striking deals that allow them to run their own independent newsletter or video podcast business while also working for a mainstream outlet, the structure may be more palatable.

Golodryga has been with CNN since 2017, when she also worked two years as a contributor while she co-anchored “CBS This Morning” along with Gayle King, John Dickerson and Norah O’Donnell, and contributed to CBS News as well. “After nine wonderful years at CNN, I’ve decided to leave for an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up,” Golodrgya posted on social media Thursday.

Exciting news to share very soon!” One person familair with the matter says the anchor realized she may have less room to expand at CNN now that the network is cutting back on the hours it once devoted to veteran international anchor Christiane Amanpour.

She announced earlier this week she would leave CNN next year after nearly four decades in TV news at both the Skydance news giant as well ABC News.
