Before Jackson, the slot was typically headlined by marching bands and past-their-prime artists. After Jackson, the stage was graced by blockbuster acts like U2, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé and Bad Bunny.

And he blended dance perfection with an emotional core in a setlist that featured “Jam,” “Billie Jean,” “Black or White,” “We Are the World” and “Heal the World.” The documentary is directed and produced by Bao Nguyen, who helmed the buzzy “We Are the World” documentary “The Greatest Night in Pop.” “Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl” is produced by Jesse Sisgold, Jon Weinbach and Lauren Gaffney for Skydance Sports; John Branca for Optimum Productions; and Amit Dey for Into the Deep End Films.

Executive producers are Karen Langford for Optimum and Ross Ketover, Ken Rodgers, Keith Cossrow and Jessica Boddy for NFL Films. The film comes almost a year after Lionsgate’s smash hit biopic “Michael” starring Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson.
