She also canceled a trip to England last year to pick up an award (and all future public appearances there) for fear of being arrested. Popular on Variety “In July 2025, the direct-action protest group Palestine Action was proscribed as a terrorist organization in the U.K.

The following month, I wrote an opinion piece expressing my intention to go on supporting Palestine Action, which is not a proscribed or otherwise prohibited group here in the Republic of Ireland,” Rooney said in a statement. She continued: “As a result, the fulfilment of contracts to publish my work in the U.K.

We remain the proud publisher of her remarkable body of work, which we will continue to sell in other territories.” Since Hamas massacred over 1,200 people on Oct. 7, 2023, retaliatory attacks by the Israeli military on Gaza have reportedly claimed the lives of over 75,000 people , according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
