Trump alleged that Maher was drunk and had a drink in hand while touring the White House. He rejected Maher’s comments on his approval numbers and support among Republicans, citing CNN polling that he said put him at 98% to 99% within the party, and defended his endorsement record. He said he had never intended to put a pool in the press briefing room, though he was weighing whether to move reporters elsewhere.

He also took issue with Maher’s views on Iran and accused him of lying about illegal voting in California. Trump praised former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt for her appearance as a guest on “Real Time,” though he described the person putting questions to her as a “biased, dumb SLEAZEBAG.” He told Maher to switch off what he called his “Laugh Machine” and said he would ask Republicans to stop covering the comedian.

“I never watched your show much, but I will never watch it again, because it is nothing more than FAKE NEWS that America, and the World, is unfortunately subjected to,” Trump wrote.
